Way of The Remote Influencer, Monk’s habit.

Here is a definition of a Religious habit, courtesy of Wikipedia.

A religious habit is a distinctive set of of garments worn by members of a religious order. In the pic above, you will see a Carmelite monk, he is the one kneeling with his arms outstretched. The nuns you see in the other photograph are from the Little sisters. These nuns designed their own unique habits. They had chosen blue denim material for the materials used for their habits.

They made their design simple and comfortable to wear. These nuns wanted to wear habits that were simple and non-threatening. The choice of material they had chosen was one which would signify that they were in harmony with the working people of the world. Their habits say who they are and what they stand for.

In Way of The Remote Influencer, it is up to the E-Monk what they should or would like to wear. I prefer to wear denim jeans, t-shirts or shirts, leather jackets – because they are durable and they keep me warm. I also wear army style jackets – I admire the discipline of soldiers. Denim jackets are also part of what I wear. I also like to wear work style jackets. The other types of garments I wear are athletic and/or martial arts style uniforms. Both of the aforementioned garments signify ‘Training’. Learning and training are important elements in Way of The Remote Influencer. These garments become uniforms of sorts. I am not interested in wearing fancy clothes, shoes etc. My work is what should be important, not the clothes that I wear.

Contemplative and Active religious orders in Way of The Remote Influencer.

contemplative_2

Through my research, I have found out that Way of The Remote Influencer is an online monastery, a religious organization, a religious order and a new religious movement. As I have mentioned in a previous post, I believe research is one the gifts I was given by God.

Contemplative religious orders are ones where the monks and nuns devote all of their time in prayer for their communities and the world at large. Monasteries have been called the ‘power houses’ of the church as they contribute the ‘ministry of prayer’ to the world. Contemplative orders usually have a more rigorous schedule than active orders.

Active orders do most of their work outside of their monasteries. They teach, provide social and health care work, provide service to the poor. Their ministry work can entail a variety of work.

In Way of The Remote Influencer, it is up to the E-Monk whether they want to focus on one or both of the orders as described above. I am following  a blend or a balance of both the contemplative and the active orders. I cannot force E-Monks to follow a particular path. The choice is theirs to make. I will support the chosen path that the E-Monks have decided upon. Pressure and dogma, strict rules are not part of Way of The Remote Influencer. Did you like the photo of the monks? I have deep respect and admiration for monks and nuns from the various religions around the world. In future posts, I will write about clothes, outfits etc for WOTRI E-Monks.

Freedom of Religion and Dietary regulations.

img_0520

Here is a segment from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The observance and practice of religion or belief may include not only ceremonial acts but also such customs as the observation of dietary regulations.

Here is a segment from the bible.

And God said, ‘Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of this earth, and every tree with seeds in its fruit. You shall have them for food.’

In Way of The Remote Influencer, E-monks should consume food and drink that is suitable for their own specific needs. I use dietary supplements as part of my health regime. I also eat and drink items which are ideal for my body. I cannot force E-monks to take supplements. This would be a dictatorship if I were to do this. If the use of supplements is something that the E-monks want or need to implement, then they should be allowed to do so. It’s advisable to seek advice from a doctor first though.

I even eat chocolate, in moderation. This is because chocolate contains feel good chemicals. Dietary supplements are classed as foods. Dietary supplements are made out of natural substances. Dietary practices are also known to exist in Hinduism, ayurvedic medicine.

Managing and distributing information.

my-acer-hard-drive-triafiles

Managing and distributing information plays an important part in Way of The Remote Influencer – WOTRI online monastery. ( If you would like to learn more about this area, please contact me via e-mail so that I can send the PDF file over to you: anand@schooloftheremoteinfluencer.com )

Did you know that monks used to copy manuscripts and books? The room or rooms in which this work was done were called Scriptoriums. Here is what Wikepedia says about this:

The act of transcription became an act of meditation and prayer, not a simple replication of letters.

In my photo above, you will see the various folders that I have made multiple backs ups of. These are just some of the PC folders that I manage. I have hundreds of PDF research files stored in my ‘Research’ folders. I am adding to this folder on an ongoing basis. I share some of this information with fellow E-monks and students. I have made multiple back ups of this folder as well.

This practice serves several purposes: It is an act of faith. It can be used to help people with. It is a spiritual exercise.

Comparing ourselves to others.

‘Let everyone be sure to do his very best for me, for then he will have the personal satisfaction of work well done and won’t need to compare himself to anyone else’. (Galatians 6:4 LB)

The above is a text from the bible. I agree with this text. When we strive to be the best that we can be, things are put into perspective. We don’t need to live the lives that others have in mind for us. I have encountered comparisons being made through my own personal experiences in life. These comparisons had had a negative effect on me.

If you look through Facebook and other social media platforms, you will see how your friends and family are having a great time, they have busy social lives, they go on vacations to exotic locations, they show the new products they have bought. The list goes on. It could easily bring one down. This would especially be the case when we do not have the aforementioned things. However, what we do have is our gifts. The key is to discover our gifts and to develop them once we have discovered them. Our lives and the lives of others will improve when we do this.

August 13th is a holiday for WOTRI.

I was ordained as a minister through the Universal Life Church on August 13th 2012. I have chosen this date as a holiday for Way of The Remote Influencer – WOTRI online monastery.

Fellow WOTRI E-monks can celebrate this day in their own way. I did not want to create a rigid and dogmatic monastery. I will balance my celebration along with my prayer and monastic work today.

Way of The Remote Influencer and Work.

Work is important in Way of The Remote Influencer – WOTRI online monastery. Work and the value of work have been written about in the bible and in Hindu scriptures. In fact, I am sure that work has been written about in most of the major religious traditions.

Saint Benedict reminds us ‘They are truly monks when they live by the labors of their own hands’. A monk is in a constant state of prayer, expressed in whatever he’s doing. Whether he’s sleeping, eating, working or in church, monks never stop worshiping God, because God is in absolutely everything they do. We please God when we do the best work we can possibly do.

Monks work so that they can keep their monasteries running. Monks have been known to operate successful businesses. They have also worked in the areas of research and education. I have written a PDF file which provides more info on ‘work’ and monasticism. My PDF gives some definitions of work too. Work can cover many areas. Work does not only mean ‘paid’ work. I can send it over to anyone interested in reading it. My e-mail address is:

Research is part of our beliefs and our work.

Basic research is part of WOTRI’s beliefs. It is also part of the ministry work that we undertake. I have written up a PDF about this area. I can e-mail it over to anyone curious to learn more about this area. I won’t give definitions of basic research in this post. (Please Google this area if so desired) My e-mail address is: anand@schooloftheremoteinfluencer.com

I have noticed that my research skills have been improving recently. I believe God is directing me to specific areas in which I should conduct research into. Research is not just for phd’s and scientists etc. Just about any profession or area of interest can benefit from research endeavours. Research is one of the gifts God has given me. I would like to share this gift with others. Research can have spiritual, physical and psychological benefits too. In future posts, I will write about my ideas related to research vs or as an adjunct to Brain Training for  Alzheimer’s.

WOTRI and the Development of Powerful People.

One of the common aims for Way of The Remote Influencer and School of The Remote Influencer, is the development of powerful people. In most religious traditions it is in accepted fact that God has given each of us unique strengths, gifts, abilities and more. It us up to us to find out what these gifts comprise of.

This can be done through self evaluation, analysis, reflection and through trial and error. Here is a link to a Facebook post I had written on this subject:
